  • The emerging category of lighter weight freeride skis brought in a new era for skiers seeking lively, lightweight products with easy all-day handling in a wide variety of snow conditions. These are skiers who look for alternative terrain, either adjacent to the groomers or adjacent to the resort. Trees (woods in the East!), bumps, powder stashes – wherever there is more fun to be had, Völkl’s Blaze series makes the experience better.

The flagship Blaze 106 has an ample 106mm waist with Völkl’s 3D Radius sidecut technology – a unique setup with longer radii at the tip and tail and a tighter shape in the midbody, allowing the skier to switch from long arcs to short turns at will. A hybrid wood core has been engineered for lighter weight, giving the ski great maneuverability and quickness while maintaining Völkl’s signature edge grip. In the Suspension Tip design, the wood core follows the shape of the tip allowing a smooth, catch free ride quality despite the Blaze’s light weight. Under the binding, a titanal power plate provides some extra grip and solid binding screw retention. Whether dropping in from the first chair or after a quick skin, skiers who don’t like to follow the tracks will have a new best friend with the Blaze.

    Features:

    • Titanal Binding Platform: A thin Titanal layer (0,3 mm) under the binding delivers the necessary strength to the ski. This way the binding screws offer reliable hold even in the toughest conditions.
    • Suspension Tips & Tails: Inserts made of elastic TPU material on the edges of the tip and tail which act like a bumper in wind-blown or tracked snow. Its shock-absorbing elasticity ensures better stability and catch-free float.
    • Hybrid Multilayer Woodcore: The extra-light hybrid multilayer wood core is a very complex core that is used in the Blaze. Light and very stable poplar and beech woods, individually weighed and selected by weight before gluing, are used in this wood core. In the tip-to-tail construction, the wood extends to the tip of the blade and end, giving them the sophisticated combination of good stability and low weight. In the center of the core, a CNC-milled Isocore area contributes to optimal liveliness and dynamic development. All in all, this design allows the stability of the ski to meet the high demands of a freeride ski, and this at a weight that is only slightly higher than that of a touring ski.
